George Pyne was a very fine woodworker who quickly developed a large clientele. A staunch defender of new instruments, he is credited with almost 500 violins and violas. He worked for the famous London dealers “Edward Withers” for about 20 years, presumably carrying out repairs and restorations for which he was also highly regarded.

This violin is very typical of his output having excellent quality tonewoods covered in his signature light gold varnish. It is a bright sounding violin with good harmonics response. The sweet, singing tone quality throughout its entire range, pleasant ‘E’ string, and the general comfort in the left hand make for great playability.

It’s one of those violins that will offer its player an adventurous journey of the nicest kind.
