Description

The Hagen Weise workshop produces a range of quality orchestral instruments to suit the intermediate to advanced student. This cello has poplar wood in the back and sides; poplar was often used by the old Italian masters for its light weight and warmth of tone. The top is from a striking piece of wide grained spruce and the varnish is a warm brown colour over a light gold ground. The cello is based on the ‘B’ model Stradivari pattern and is very subtly shaded and ‘antiqued’.

The poplar wood contributes to its deep, warm, rich sound which is clean and clear with nicely ringing overtones. Fitted with Spirocore C and G and Larsen D and A strings, the cello has the slightly gritty bass associated with these strings which suits it beautifully.

The generous volume carries well to give ample projection.

Comfortable and robust, this will be an excellent choice of instrument for the advanced student.
