F.N. Voirin French Cello Bow,c.1875

Not unusually, this almost 150 year old bow came to us having been through the wars but it has now been fully restored. Like many cello bows of the period, it is lighter than modern bows and so if it seems extraordinary to see a Voirin bow in this price range, it is because these factors have been allowed for.

F.N. Voirin, one of the greatest makers of the French school, cousin of J.B. Vuillaume, for whom he worked (this bow is in the Vuillaume style), and highly influential in the development of the craft, he taught many of the bow makers of the next generation who were destined in turn to become revered masters.
