H.C. Silvestre French Violin Bow, c.1890

The stamp “H.C.Silvestre a Paris” indicates that it is a French bow made for this highly influential Parisian violin shop. Typically refined Mirecourt work that will constantly reward the player.

H.C. Silvestre was the successor to Pierre and Hippolyte Silvestre in Lyon and later moved the business to Paris. Associated with Maucotel, the business morphed into the famous firm of Maucotel et Dechamps. Bows with the above stamp were sourced from a number of different Mirecourt bow making workshops.
