Description

Mayson was in the habit of naming his creations and must have been in a particularly poetic mood when he chose to name this one … “The Elfin Shell”!

He was born and initially worked in Manchester, later we can presume in Newby Bridge, Windermere before moving to London finally returning to Manchester.

He was an autodidact with a prolific output which helped to hone his skills to the point where his work became very confident.

The broad flamed maple back and straight grained spruce top plate are covered in a warm amber varnish. It has a powerful sound with an open, free resonance; big and beefy in the lower register, sweet in the upper. It responds readily to the bow, is well balanced across the strings and provides excellent playability.
