Born in Bendigo, Victoria, he began his training in 1982 and studied in Australia and Germany culminating in a Master Certificate with Distinction in Germany in 1997. Since this time he has been working exclusively as a maker of new instruments in Victoria, with instruments played professionally Australia wide as well as in Europe and the U.S.A. Rainer has won multiple certificates and medals at the prestigious VSA competition in the U.S.A., he is a founding member of the Australian Violin Makers Association (AVMA) and the Entente Internationale des Maitres Luthiers et Archetiers d’art (EILA).

This violin has a two piece back of nice, medium flamed maple with the figure rising from the centre joint, the sides and head are of similar wood, the top plate is of two pieces, a terrific selection of finest tonewood exhibiting straight grained spruce and close, evenly spaced reed lines, the varnish is a homogenous coat with just a slight hint of intentional wear to give it a comfortable feel.

With all the attributes we’ve become accustomed to in Beilharz instruments, this one tips the scale having the even, resonant response with lots of volume and projecting power that the professional player or advancing student needs to perform. The sound is super-clear and just on the brighter side of the scale which contributes to that great carrying power. As well as pursuing the best sound performance, Beilharz has a keen focus on the physical playability of his instruments, and this factor will often set his instruments above the rest as he is acutely aware that removing any impediment to playing is of huge value to the player.

Instruments of this quality, expensive though they are, present incredible value for money and should be on everyone’s wish list.
