Violin bow stamped ‘AUGUST THOMA’ c. 1935

Based in Hohendorf, Bavaria, the Thoma workshop is probably the source of this commercially produced bow.

It comprises an octagonal pernambuco stick with nickel mounted ebony frog, three piece adjuster and silver / spun-on-silk lapping.

It is a strong stick with a firm grip on the strings and produces a clear, crisp tone with smooth string crossings. Sharp martellato ‘cut’ and natural clean détaché combined with a comfortable well balanced feel completes the picture.
