Unstamped German violin bow, c.1920

The stick is made from a beautiful piece of octagonal pernambuco with traditional black and white whalebone lapping; the silver mounted, carved walnut frog and adjuster set the piece off.

This is a strong stick, stable on the strings and producing a lovely smooth sound. Very consistent bouncing for spiccato and sautille and gripping the strings well for forte, legato, staccato and martele. It easily responds to different speeds and pressure to achieve dynamics contrasts.

The walnut carved frog and carved ‘acorn’ adjuster are standout features on this bow.
