Morizot Freres viola bow, Mirecourt, c.1940 stamped “TOURTE”

The five Morizot brothers all trained with their father and set up one of the most efficient workshops based on a system of division of labour. They made bows for a large number of other dealers and violin workshops; this is a clear sign of the respect in which they were held by the trade.

The bow comprises a round pernambuco stick with fine silver mounted ebony frog and an ebony adjuster fully sheathed in silver.

It works beautifully, being stable on the strings and producing a very refined tone as well as performing the full gamut of bow strokes with aplomb!
