A composite Italian violin attributed to the Ceruti school.

An interesting violin attributed to the Ceruti school (Cremona) by W.E. Hill & Sons, London. The violin passed through the Hill shop on a couple of occasions but it suffered damage in the early 1940’s and was subsequently fully restored in the Hill workshop, including having a new top plate made and fitted.

The back plate is of two pieces of narrow, regularly flamed maple with the figure ascending from the centre joint; the sides are of similar wood; the head of plain maple; the later top plate is of two pieces of medium grain and all is covered in an attractive warm gold varnish.

The violin still retains its Hill fittings from its earlier restoration and is fitted with Evah Pirazzi Gold strings. It is a lovely violin in very good condition with a pleasing rich sound, and would be suitable for the advanced student, young professional or dedicated amateur player.
