Paul Freidel,15 ½” Viola, Markneukirchen, Germany, 1923.
A 15 ½” German trade viola, from the workshop of Paul Freidel of Markneukirchen. The viola is loosely modelled on the work of Stradivari and is in excellent condition. The back plate is of medium, regularly flamed maple; the ribs are of similar wood; the top plate of close grained, good quality tonewood and all is covered in a reddish-brown varnish.
Paul Freidel worked in Markneukirchen during the first half of the 20th century. Markneukirchen was a hive of violin making industry at this time and Freidel would have trained and worked there for other masters before setting up his own trade workshop.
For it's diminutive size, this is a very nice sounding viola. The best of all worlds, a great sound, a comfortable size, and an affordable price. It has our ‘Master’ set-up with Evah Pirazzi strings. This viola represents great value for money and would be suitable for the advanced or advancing student or dedicated amateur player.
