German Violin Bow, Stamped “MUHL” c.1920
A beautifully worked octagonal stick, confidently left straight off the plane! Chased silver mounts compliment the general quality of this bow which would be an asset to any advancing student.
Only marginally more frustrating than a fabulous unstamped bow is one which is stamped but where the stamp is totally unrecorded. The ‘MUHL’ stamp is unknown, certainly in making circles and so is probably the name or initials of the original selling shop. The bow is made very much in homage to the French tradition with Voirin style head and adjuster collar but is undoubtably a product of Germany’s great bow making centre in the Vogtland.
