Günter Paulus German Violin Bow, c.1985
Paulus used different stamps to indicate different levels of quality, stamps with three ‘stars’ on both sides of the name indicate the top-level for silver mounted bows by this master German bowmaker. Made during the period before reunification; the output of top quality bows like this, much to our benefit, were mainly for export.
Günter Paulus learned the craft from his father starting in1963, he continued to work in the family workshop, completing his Masters examination in 1972 and shortly after, opened his own workshop. For some years he managed the bow making department of the Markneukirchen Technical School and served as head of the bow makers guild of Markneukirchen. An important maker of his generation in this amazing musical hub.
