Honore Derazey, French Violin c. 1845

A wonderful sounding violin from this celebrated French master. Honore Derazey trained as a violin maker in Mirecourt and subsequently moved to Paris where he made the acquaintance, and obviously impressed the famous dealer, J.B. Vuillaume, as well as gaining employment in various other establishments in that important musical city. Returning to Mirecourt, he set up his own workshop and such was the quality of his output that he won several competition medals both at home and abroad.

This violin is based on a Stradivari model and has a striking one-piece back plate of beautifully flamed maple with matching ribs and a superb tonewood top plate; the varnish is typically of Derazey’s slightly purplish, dark red colour now worn in a natural patina to reveal a golden ground.

The violin has been played professionally and this is the first time it has come on the market for many years. It is a superb sounding instrument, fitted up with Evah Pirazzi strings and would be suitable for the advanced student or professional player.
