Italian Violin Labelled ‘Claudio Monteverde, Cremona 1923’

Monteverde violins were Italian trade instruments made by the 'Cavali' enterprise to suit different levels of the market. As is often the case with trade instruments we suspect the component parts may have been sourced from a variety of specialist workshops, both in and outside Italy, with final assembly, and/or varnishing, completed at the central ‘home’ workshop in Cremona.

The attractive, eye-catching back plate is of two pieces of maple; the sides and head are of similar wood; the top plate of two pieces of straight, medium grained spruce; the varnish is of a lovely warm gold colour, over a light gold ground. The fluting of the lower wings of the f-holes are typical of the Monteverde workshop.

This fine condition violin has a nice clear, bright sound which projects well throughout its whole range. It would ideally suit the advanced or advancing student.
