Paul Weidhaas Violin Bow, Germany c.1930/40

Superb wood, a tortoiseshell frog and beautifully decorated adjuster button place this bow in the upper echelons of Weidhaas’ output, a ‘must try’ bow for the advancing student or professional player looking for something special.

Paul Weidhaas was a highly regarded bow maker and one of the most influential German makers of his generation. He learned the craft from his father in Markneukirchen and worked for other senior makers in Breslau and Hamburg before sitting his master’s examination in 1918 after which he returned to Markneukirchen to manage the family workshop. He continued to travel, working for Möller and Vedral in the Netherlands and Victor Fetique in Paris. His descendants were to found the famous Finkel bow making workshop in Switzerland which operates to this day.
