A really lovely violin, typical of Sderci’s work of the period, featuring a striking one-piece back plate of highly flamed maple with matching ribs and head; the head possibly not original; the top plate of two pieces of fine quality tone wood, all covered in a light, warm gold varnish which is laid over a light gold ground. Sderci’s work is renowned for its meticulous craftsmanship and this violin is no exception, being beautifully designed and made.

Igino Sderci is regarded as one of the finest modern Italian makers, winning many accolades for his instruments. He worked in Florence; initially training as a wood carver and using these obvious sculpting skills to transition to violin making. He studied with Leandro Bisiach and later trained both Bisiach’s son and his own son, Luciano, in the craft. He was a very prolific maker, concentrating mainly on violins and violas.

Producing a big warm bass with clear upper registers and super projection, this is a professional instrument and would suit the professional player needing to upgrade or the advanced student with an eye on the future!
