Joseph Alfred Lamy, Composite French Violin Bow, c.1890

Joseph Alfred Lamy and his two sons worked so closely together that their work is often indistinguishable from each other. This bow has a round pernambuco stick with later silver mounted ebony frog. The stick has a good genuine ‘Lamy’ stamp whilst the frog, although loosely in style, is clearly not original.

The bow plays beautifully, as you would expect of an Alfred Lamy bow, the stick being the important ‘business end’ of any bow and although composite, it offers the best performance characteristics of a ‘Master’ French bow whilst being affordable due to its composite nature.

This bow would be suitable for any advanced or professional player looking for both a fine French bow and a bargain.
